“My eyes are burning” – The woman hospitalized after eyelashes extending went wrong

Refilwe Motiang, 31, from Midrand, was hospitalized after an eyelash extension procedure almost blinded her blind person. The incident happened last Thursday until a trip to the northwest was planned.

During the date, Motiang experienced a strong burn in her eyes. Despite her complaints, the technicians still regard the pain as normal, blaming the intense glue. Her condition worsened and she was taken to NetCare Hospital, where doctors diagnosed her corneal damage.

“My eyes were burning,” she recalled. “I was shaking, tearing, unable to open my eyes. I knew something was wrong then.”

She described the experience as horrible: “I can’t see – just hear the sound. I kept thinking, will they take out my eyes?”

Motian spent several days with eye spots, isolated in a dark room to avoid exposure. This ordeal left her emotionally and mentally exhausted. “I feel lonely and sad, thinking, is it all just because I want to look beautiful?”

Now recovering, she regrets the decision and is considering legal action. “My kids are worried. The hospital bills are also expensive,” she added.

Eyelash expert Paballo Mbabama warns strong glue, poor ventilation and poor technology can cause serious harm. “If it burns too much, it’s not normal,” she said.

Motiang continued to undergo examinations during full recovery.
