

The super hawk and idol of Nigerian legend Peter Rufai, also known as “dodomayana”, was 62 years old.
The Super Hawks confirmed in an official statement that the country’s football space is mourning one of Nigerian football greats, legendary goalkeeper Peter Rufai, who died Thursday, July 3, 2025.
According to the channel TV station, the goalkeeper legend died after a brief illness.
Known as “Dodomayana”, Rufai is a towering figure in Nigerian football and a key member of the squad for the 1994 African Cup of Nations title.
Rufai’s influence goes far beyond this historic victory. During his debut at the 1994 FIFA World Cup, he was the first goalkeeper and captain, helping the team reach 16 rounds.
In his outstanding career, Rufie won 65 blocks for the Super Hawks and firmly established herself as one of the best custodians between the country.
Rufai is known for his outstanding fines and leadership skills, and he earned fines in the 1994 AFCON qualifiers, making a rare contribution to the scoreboard.
