Arsenal confirmed Tomiasu’s departure in a formal announcement, which is why the defense lawyer left before the contract expires.
Arsenal has officially confirmed that defender Takehiro Tomiyasu has left the club after jointly reaching the agreement to terminate the contract immediately.
The 26-year-old Japanese international joined the North London side from Bologna in August 2021 and made 84 appearances in all competitions.
Tomiyasu is a versatile and reliable Ministry of Defense, quickly establishing his fan favorite at right back, winning the Arsenal “Player of the Month” again in his first September and October 2023.
However, in recent seasons, the injury has severely damaged his progress. During the last campaign, the defender only appeared once, prompting discussions between the club and the players about their future.
The decision was ultimately part of the approach, giving Tomiyasu the opportunity to pursue the next phase of his career.
Tomiyasu started his career with J1 league team Avispa Fukuoka before moving to Europe in 2018 with Belgian club Sint-Truiden, where his impressive performance earned him the club honors this season.
His progress caught the sight of Serie A and eventually led to his move to the Premier League.
Arsenal thanks Tomiyasu for her commitment and professionalism throughout Emirates and wishes him and his family good for the future.
