Two Nigeria’s commercial banks have announced the resumption of international transactions on their Nairaka.

In a separate announcement to clients, United Bank of Africa (UBA) and WEMA Bank said the service had been recommended on its Naira cards.

The development was about three years after many banks suspended international transactions on Naira debit cards.

UBA said in a recent notification to customers that the recovery is aligned with the ongoing commitment to provide customers with seamless and enhanced banking experience.

“In line with our commitment to providing you with seamless and enhanced banking, we are pleased to inform you that all UBA premium nairakas (including gold, platinum and world variants) are now available for international transactions,” the statement said.

“This means you can now use premium nairaka for daily payments, online shopping, POS and ATM transactions around the world for easier and more flexibility.

“If you haven’t used a card recently, now is a great time to rediscover the convenience and reputation that UBA premium cardholders bring.”

Wema Bank announced the development in a recent statement, saying customers can now “pay in US dollars” with Nairaka.

“Your Wema Naira Mastercard just globally! Now you can pay in USD on all your favorite international platforms; Amazon, eBay, aliexpress?netfress?netflix, Spotify, YouTube.”
