Edo State Governor, Senator Okpebholo, on Monday, is facing an online rebound after his old WAEC results are distributed, with many Nigerians skeptical of his academic abilities.
The controversy broke out shortly after the governor issued a harsh warning to Labour’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, who insisted that Obi must obtain a security permit before making any visits to future Edo countries. This comes after Obi visited Benin City on July 7, where he donated 15 million copies to the School of Nursing Sciences at San Filomena Hospital.
Now, a copy of Okpebholo’s WAEC results released in 2008 has surfaced, showing what critics call “embarrassing poverty”. According to the results, the governor sat in six subjects and scored:
- C5 In mathematics (his best score),
- D7 In Business, Economics and Christian Religious Knowledge (CRK),
- E8 In English.
This revelation sparked a violent reaction on social media, with many linking his poverty score to what they described as being misunderstood in public speeches recently.
Here are some online reactions:
- Gift explain: “E don’t perform. No wonder he couldn’t pronounce “billions” and promised insecurity to import in Edo.”
- Emanuel, you Comment: “No wonder he can’t pronounce it.”
- My Hero Write: “No wonder he told the Edo people that he would give them insecurity 🤣. ”
- Samsi Kenny joke: “No wonder…so this man dey cram wetin dem wrote for Em, and when e speaks, he misses the lines. Lol. Oga just uses his hands to buy the market for Alaba International International.”
The incident further exacerbated political tensions between Governor Okpebholo and Peter Obi, with many calling for a greater scrutiny of the governor’s leadership and academic background.
