    • After investigation, AFAW confirmed the incident occurred in the Delta, not Anambra, and contacted local authorities. Police intervened with Senator Ned Nwoko’s office to ensure Diokpa is medically cared for.

The alleged advocacy of the witch (AFAW) revealed a viral announcement that a 97-year-old man in the Delta State changed from a bird to a human, clarifying that the man Diokpa Okonkwo Oru had dementia.

The incident attracted attention, and the video claimed that Diokpa landed on the roof of Uzebu Iko at 1 a.m. and “turned into humanity”, thus restoring old allegations of mysticism.

AFAW director Leo Igwe criticized this narrative:Imagine the mindset of the people who wrote this article and shared on the internet in this 21st century…this reflects the general mindset of Nigeria and Africa. ”

After investigation, AFAW confirmed the incident occurred in the Delta, not Anambra, and contacted local authorities. Police intervened with Senator Ned Nwoko’s office to ensure Diokpa is medically cared for.

The Ogbe-Ofu Youth Development Association condemns the abuse: “Some young people… are in trouble, and are recorded and humiliated by helpless elderly people, which is painful and unacceptable,” their statement read. They demanded disciplinary action and apology for Diokpa’s family.

Afaw warned that stressed the dangers of such belief: “When people are seen wandering the streets with dementia, people brand their witches or return from the covenant. People who are accused of dementia are often forced to admit and admit to being killed or hurting people through mysterious means.”

The team concluded: “People with dementia are not witches. They will not become birds… They should be treated with love, care, dignity and respect.”
