
Users of social media platforms such as Tiktok, Facebook, Instagram and X have deleted these accounts and violated the code of practice. This was disclosed in the Code of Practice Compliance Report 2024, submitted to the government by the government submitted by interactive computer service platforms such as Google, Microsoft and Tiktok.
The Code of Practice was jointly issued by the NCC, NITDA National Information Technology Development Bureau and the NBC National Broadcasting Committee. The 2024 report is titled “Code of Practice 2024 Compliance Report”, focusing on the “Efforts to Protect Online Injury” by social media platforms.
A statement issued by a NITDA Hadiza Umar spokesman said a total of 58,909,112 offensive content was removed from various platforms. Government agencies praised Google, Microsoft and Tiktok for their continued compliance with the code of practice of interactive computer service platforms/internet intermediaries, noting that 754,629 registration complaints were received. A NITDA spokesman added that after the user appealed, 420,439 items were deleted and re-uploaded.
“Compliance reports provide valuable insights into addressing the platform’s efforts to address user security issues in accordance with the Code of Practice and Platform Community Guidelines. “The submission of these reports marks an important step in promoting a safer, responsible digital environment for Nigerian users. “We remain committed to working with industry players, civil society and regulatory partners to further strengthen user security measures, enhance digital literacy, and promote trust and transparency in the Nigerian digital ecosystem,” the statement said.
