A Nigerian pastor, Benjamin Egbaji from Cross River State, was detained in the Benin Republic for two years after allegations of rape.
The information was shared by Foreign Minister Bianca Ojukwu via X (formerly Twitter).
Ojukwu said she visited the Central National Hospital University (CNHU), where the pastors facing serious health challenges were seriously challenged there.
The priest was accused of sexually assaulting her 13-year-old daughter, Ahouandjinou Dona Sarah by a Beninian woman, Pede Victoire. However, in a surprising development, the alleged victim later denied the allegation. The case is now being appealed.
Bianca Ojukwu added that efforts are being made to ensure justice is being served for Egbaji. She also expressed her gratitude to the authorities of the Republic of Benin (including the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Justice) and visited the pastor in a timely manner.
