Dr. James C. Dobson is one of the most influential Christian voices in the past fifty years Died Dobson was 89 on August 21, 2025. Known as a psychologist, best-selling author and iconic broadcaster, he is committed to defending biblical values and equipping families with thriving in cultural change.

Dobson’s mission to live was born in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1936. He was interested in family dynamics, he pursued psychology, and soon became a trusted counselor. In 1977, he established a family-focused organization, which grew into one of the largest faith-based ministries in the world. His radio broadcasts were filled with practical advice and biblical teaching, eventually aired on more than 4,000 TV stations in North America and attracted audiences from more than 160 countries.

Dobson’s influence goes beyond the media. He has written more than 70 books, many of which have become home staples in Christian families. Such as the new daring to discipline, the title of raising a boy, when God makes no sense, provides parents with eternal guidance to navigate the complexity of raising a child and preserving a strong marriage. His works have always blended psychological insights with biblical truths, earning him respect in the church and policy makers.

Dobson served as an advisor to five U.S. presidents throughout his career and participated in the national committees targeting family and social policies. From the rise of combating porn to the conversation about child welfare, Dobson never shyly participates in public squares. The presidential appointments of Ronald Reagan and George HW Bush reflect his figure as a leading advocate of family-centric policy. Later, his presence on President Donald Trump’s evangelical advisory board further demonstrates his lasting impact on national issues.

In 2010, Dobson changed from focusing on family, launching the James Dobson PhD Institute (JDFI) to continue his ministry through family talks, a joint radio show that still has hundreds of thousands per week. This move reflects his unwavering commitment to provide families with wisdom and biblical perspectives regardless of changes in the cultural landscape.

His colleagues describe him as a man of faith and compassion. “He is a mentor, counselor and a stable voice of truth,” noted Gary Bauer, senior vice president of public policy at JDFI.

Dobson is survived by his 64-year-old wife, Shirley, their children Danae and Ryan, daughter Laura and two grandchildren. His lasting legacy lies in the fact that countless families have been strengthened by his teachings, and generations have inspired faith and family as the cornerstone of life.
