Senior Nigerian comedian, Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome, commonly known as Ali Baba has been deported from his millions of Victoria Island in Victoria Island after a lasting ownership dispute. Located at 324A Akin Ogunlewe Street on Victoria Island, the property was originally purchased by Ali Baba through its company XQZMOI TV, which purchased $220 million from Nigeria’s Asset Management Company (AMCON) in 2021 in 2021.
The controversy behind luxury property
The building has been occupied by AMCON, which claims it is recovering debts owed by Harold Expansion Industries Nigeria Limited. However, the company objected to the debt and insisted that the repayment was in full.
Their attorney Benjamin Olayiwola Sadibo believes that Amcon mistakenly sold the property despite the unresolved lawsuit.
Court judgment
On July 31, 2025, Federal High Court Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa made a decisive ruling, changing the course of the incident.
The judge dismissed the AMCON case, ruling that the company failed to provide sufficient evidence of alleged debt.
It is worth noting that AMCON cannot file a bill to support its claim.
Worse, AMCON failed to defend Harold’s extended counterclaim.
This omission left the court with no choice but to relate to Harold’s expansion.
The court not only restored ownership of the property to its original family, but also criticized AMCON for 500 million indemnity compensation.
Why Alibaba is affected
Ali Baba’s trouble stems from the timing of his purchase. Court records show that despite existing preservation orders, he still acquired the property while in dispute.
Reports show that before the purchase, Ali Baba was the tenant of the original owner of the property and they were deported when Amcon took over and sold it.
On August 15, 2025, a judge in the Federal High Court executed a warrant and expelled Alibaba and its company.
what does that mean
The case highlights the risks of buying properties caught in a legal battle. Despite the $220 million payment, Ali Baba is now facing the reality of losing Victoria Island property, all due to claims that the original debt that led to the seizure could not stand in court.
The comedian has not made a public statement about the eviction.
