The federal government has reintroduced Nigeria’s history in its basic education curriculum, and officials say aims to strengthen national identity, unity, patriotism and citizenship among young people in Nigeria.

The Federal Department of Education’s Director of News and Public Relations said in a statement on the impact on Wednesday night: “Education Minister Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, Education Minister Professor Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmad announced the policy on Wednesday, thanking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for pushing reforms under the agenda of regaining hope. ”

“They explained that for decades, students will continue to study Nigerian history from elementary school 1 to junior high school 3, JSS3,” Added a statement.

Students in secondary schools (SSS1-3) will now conduct citizenship and heritage studies, a newly developed discipline that combines Nigerian history with civic education.

Under the revised course, students of Nigeria’s origins, heroes and heroines, cultural heritage, political development, geography, economy, religion, colonial rule and post-independence governance will be taught. Junior high school students will cover topics such as early Nigerian civilization, pre-colonial countries, West African empire, Europe’s contact, integration, independence struggle and democratic governance, and integrate with civic values to promote national unity.

minister Describe reform as a “priceful gift to the nation” Say this will reconnect with the child while instilling pride and responsibility.

They added that embedding civic education into the curriculum will provide learners with the values they need to respect diversity, maintain institutions and contribute positively to society.

“The Ministry of Education has released the revised junior and junior intermediate courses and said it will work with stakeholders to provide resources, retrain teachers and monitor implementation.

The statement read further: “The federal government urges parents, educators and communities to support the initiative, which describes it as a shared responsibility in fostering disciplined and patriotic citizens.”
