Girls start paying taxes in Nigeria starting in January 2026

Taiwan Oyedele, the director of tax reform for President Bola Tinubu, announced that all Nigerians, including women engaged in prostitutes, often referred to as “running”, as well as individuals involved in Ill3egal transactions, will take effect in January 2026.

Oyedele, head of the President’s Committee on Fiscal Policy and Reform, issued a notice to members of the Redemption Christian Church in Lagos over the weekend.

He explained that the new law signed by President Tinob in June taxes all income without distinguishing whether the source is legal or illegal.

“In the law, income is income,” he said.

“If someone is doing running girls, they go find men to sleep with men; you know that’s a service. They pay taxes for it.”

According to Oyedele, the reform aims to ensure that every service or transaction provided for money, regardless of legality, falls within taxable brackets.

He stressed that the law itself does not have a mechanism to separate legal income from the mechanisms in which ILLE3 participates, so all income is considered taxable.

He noted that reforms were part of an effort to expand the Nigerian tax base.
