As Professor Yakub was handed over to May Agbamuche, who is now acting president, the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) carried out leadership change.
The oldest national commissioner, Agbamuche, formally held the post at a handover ceremony held at the INEC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
Yakubu, who led the committee since 2015, praised Agbamuche’s ability and urged employees to support her until the appointment of the entity’s chairperson.
Agbamuche will monitor INEC’s ongoing election and administrative activities to ensure Nigerians respond to transitions on social media.

While talking to Hip TV, Omawumi revealed that meeting Cobhams has changed her career.
“When we first met, he just called. I knew we met on the show and he said, ‘Omawumi, it’s Cobhams Asuquo, you know he likes his name. I want you to make a song. It may not come out like it is, but let’s keep going,'” She said.
She added that she accepted the offer, accidentally opening more doors for her. Omawumi also talked about her working relationship with Cobhams, revealing that she learned a lot from the artist.
“I made this song and the agency picked it up. I’ve been the brand ambassador for the product for two years. Cobhams has taught me a lot of nuances in terms of delivery and posture.” she added.
