Fr. Kelvin Ugwu slams man seeking ‘rest cow’ donations for dead loved ones

    • Fr. Kelvin Ugwu has criticized a man who asked for donations to buy a cow for burial, saying the man claimed the deceased could not rest in peace without the cow.
    • In a Facebook post, Fr. Ugwu scoffed at the idea, urging people to inform their relatives in advance if they could not afford the “rest cow”.
    • He humorously added that with the current high price of cows, “the cost of resting has also increased”.

Nigerian Catholic priest Fr. Kelvin Ugwu has criticized a man who sought financial assistance to buy a cow for a funeral.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, October 7, Fr. Ugwu denounced the request, revealing that the man claimed that the cow was essential for burial without which the deceased could not rest in peace.

The priest advised the man to inform his relatives that he could not afford the expenses. “The resting cow.”

“I have not looked for anyone’s trouble here for a long time. This is because I repented and decided to keep the peace but someone stirred up this peace. This person was asking for donations to buy a cow to bury his relatives. I was thinking, in this Tinubu regime, people still buy cows to bury? People will mind,” he wrote.

It was his response that prompted this article. He said this was a requirement; otherwise, the man would not rest in peace and the villagers would not allow him to participate in any village activities.

I don’t have time for nonsense. Blocked! Well, for all of you. The price of a larger quality cattle now ranges from 1.5 million naira to 2 million naira, while a bull similar to Ram Pro Max costs about 900,000 naira.

For those who think that the dead must be buried with cattle to rest in peace, I just said let me tell you that the cost of resting in peace also increases.

Forget it! But if you must mention it, then mention it to your relatives while they are still alive. Tell them you won’t be able to afford to rest their cows so they start to make up their minds and accept that they won’t be able to rest after they die. This will lighten your load. This will either allow them to hurry up and rest in peace before they die, or they will accept their fate and they will not have a peaceful life. Thank you! I said, don’t mention it. “
