How coup plotters planned to assassinate Nigerian President Tinubu, Vice President Shettima and Senator Akpabio

Top intelligence sources have revealed that a group of disgruntled military officers are allegedly plotting a coup to overthrow President Bola Tinubu, in a plot security officials say is one of the most audacious threats to Nigeria’s democracy.

PREMIUM TIMES reported that about 20 police officers were arrested and detained for plotting the coup.

A senior military source familiar with the developments told this newspaper that the conspiracy caused tensions within the government, forcing the president to cancel the country’s Independence Day parade, which is usually held on October 1.

However, a team of investigators has been set up to investigate the officers involved.

According to insiders, the coup plotters plan to launch a strike on October 25.

“That’s a tentative date,” the source said. “If things didn’t work out that day, they would have continued to plot.”

According to our sources, the Independence Day parade will be watched.

“Since the arrests were made before October 1, the parade could have been held, but the government did not want to take the risk as it was a military ceremony,” another official said.

There are no clear details yet on the identities of the officers involved.
