exist Sunday, October 19, 2025Afrobeat superstar David Adeleke, better known as Davido, swapped the concert stage for a university podium for a truly heartwarming and deeply personal event. The Grammy-nominated artist commissioned the construction of a women’s dormitory at Clifford University in Abia State, named in lasting honor of his late mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke.

The new building, the Veronica Imade Adeleke Female Hostel, was officially opened during the university’s sixth graduation ceremony. The day perfectly combines academic celebration with a strong tribute to the legacy of education and philanthropy.

    Turn love into a legacy

Davido’s dedication to the facility was more than just a donation; it was a living continuation of his mother’s life’s mission. Dr. Veronica Adeleke was an educator and devotee, and her son became visibly emotional as she talked about her lasting impact.

“My mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, was a teacher and devotee who believed that education and compassion can change lives,” Davido shared. “This building is a continuation of her purpose – to transform love into legacy.”

He noted that seeing the smiles of the students who live there is a powerful reminder that his mother’s spirit lives on through acts of kindness and empowerment.

The message: Talent opens doors, purpose gives meaning

As the commencement speaker, Davido turned his attention from pop songs to life lessons. He delivered a powerful and inspiring message to graduates, urging them to look beyond fame and fortune as measures of success.

He emphasized that true success lies in impact, not numbers:

“True greatness lies not in fame or numbers, but in the lives you touch and the change you inspire,” he advises new graduates. He further motivated them by saying, “Talent may open doors, but purpose gives it meaning.”

He challenges young people to use their platform, whatever they are, to build for the next generation, proving once again that the Afrobeat star’s influence extends far beyond the music charts.

    a day of goodwill

This exciting event was further highlighted by surprising acts of generosity. The meeting was also attended by Chief Pastor Kubana, a popular nightlife entrepreneur and close ally of Davido, who spontaneously pledged to pay the tuition fees of 50 students at the university.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chimezie Omeonu, commended the star for his humility and dedication, describing the commission as a noble act that inspires hope and strengthens the culture of giving back.

It was a profound day for students and attendees, celebrating a moment when a global celebrity used his platform to honor family, promote education and advocate a message of purpose over vanity. This is the perfect pinnacle of music, legacy and service.
