Two-time Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci has expressed her condolences over the tragic story of 13-year-old abuse victim Ochanya Ogbanje and the recent GoFundMe campaign launched in her memory.
In 2018, years after her death, Ochanya’s heartbreaking story resurfaced. She reportedly suffered severe abuse while living with her cousin and his father, which led to complications that led to her death. The renewed public attention inspired the creation of a GoFundMe page to aid the ongoing fight for justice.
In an emotional Instagram post, Hilda Baci shared her pain and sympathy for Ochanya and other victims who have suffered similar physical and emotional trauma. She lamented that those charged with protecting the young girl had failed her, stressing that many others continued to suffer in silence.
The celebrity chef stressed that honoring Ochanha requires more than just a social media hashtag, but also real action and a commitment to helping survivors of abuse.
To show her support, Hilda announced a £2 million donation to help bring justice to victims like Ochanha. She also called on her fans to choose two non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that will benefit from the donations.
According to her, the move is intended to inspire others to join the movement, whether through financial support, advocacy or professional help. She urged individuals who are unable to donate to expand the cause and encouraged attorneys to volunteer to join the legal team working on the case.
Hilda Baci joins a growing list of public figures speaking out for victims of abuse. Earlier this year, activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as “Verydarkman”, also became involved in efforts to rescue and repatriate underage girls who had been trafficked abroad.
