Nigerian singer Aituaje Iruobe, popularly known as Waje, recently opened up about how some of her benefits were ignored after working with now-defunct music group Psquare.
The singer and mother of one shared her experience on the Honest Bunch podcast, reflecting on her journey in the music industry.
Waje revealed that she lent her voice to Psquare’s 2007 hit single “Do Me, I Do You” and sang parts of the song. She even reminded fans of her contribution back then.
Waje said that despite her involvement, Psquare did not compensate her for her work on the song or publicly acknowledge her contribution.
The discussion paused as she began to describe the actions she took after realizing she was being ignored.
Recalling the emotional side of the experience, Waje asked the audience to imagine she was walking through the Onitsha market, hearing the song coming from the speakers and telling the vendors that it was her singing, only to have them respond indifferently, asking: “Who are you?”

@crco: “Wow, I didn’t know it was her. You guys didn’t even try. You better do what is necessary and pay her for her contribution to this global hit song. Also, I had no idea Waje was Igbo.”
@avdo69: “The way the Nigerian music industry works is ‘use it and forget it’. Too many legends working behind the scenes with zero credit.”
@waleobiz: “Be me and I will be you”; ironically, life rewarded her. She deserves better. “
@BestEducreator: “That song alone gave her exposure and it had nothing to do with money or points. That song is one of the reasons why she continues to have her career today. That song introduced her to the world and the Nigerian market and then it was an honor to work with Psquare. That’s where I stand.”
