Fans of Nigerian Afrobeat superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, have expressed their frustration on social media after a chaotic concert at Michael Okpala Square in Enugu. According to reports, what was expected to be an exciting night of music instead descended into chaos.
According to Naija News, Davido earlier announced his return to Nigeria’s “5ive Tour” and plans to perform in various cities including Akwa Ibom, Adamawa, Enugu, Ibadan and Lagos.
The tour started in Akwa Ibom on October 26, continued in Adamawa on October 29, and arrived in Enugu on November 1. The tour will end in Ibadan on November 9th and Lagos on December 25th.
The first few stops were reported to have gone well, but the Enugu concert was severely criticized by attendees. The complaint highlights overcrowding, poor crowd management, harassment and security breaches.
Reports indicate that more than 40,000 people attended the Enugu event, almost double the venue’s 20,000-person capacity, leading to chaos and security concerns.
Concertgoers took to social media to recount disturbing experiences, including gates being broken into, personal belongings stolen and security being inadequate throughout the event.

@adis_beautification: “None of them were wearing tags. People came in without tickets; the gate was broken and the security guard was not at the door. The security guard did a terrible job. The touts came in. They tore the bags with razor blades. So does this mean we go to the concert and our safety is not guaranteed? The number of girls who were robbed was high. Unfortunately, my phone was stolen.”
@hairz_by_steph: “They were pressing the girl’s breasts and butt. A guy behind me was rock hard,” she said. “My fingernails fell off; the crowd was so big. Everyone was just getting in. The event was supposed to start at 4pm, but Davido didn’t arrive until 3am. People were getting in without tags. One guy was walking around me trying to take something tangible from me. I met another friend who was crying; her phone had been stolen. Security had to carry me out because the crowd was too big.”
@mmachukwu: “This was my experience at Davido’s concert in Enugu. If I had known what was good for me, I would have stayed home. The entrance was crazy. There were tasers, there were canes. People were just about to get in, trying to get through the gate, and all of a sudden, There would be a bunch of people pushing everyone back. If you look forward you can see the security guard whipping everyone in his line and you can hear the Taser hitting someone in the body multiple times.”
@mirabel_merra: “When the security guards got tired, they gave up on the gate. The way people were pushing, if I hadn’t held my sister up, she would have fallen. The stampede was the actual gate being knocked down, people falling over each other, and the security guard having a complete meltdown.”
@reallifestories: “My borrowed wig, my shoes, my other phone – everything in my bag was stolen. Someone even took me to his car and gave me his clothes and slippers. He told me to hold my breath, stop crying and come home when I’m ready. It’s not fair”
@Gidi_Traffic: “It’s 2025 and there are no excuses. Event organizers must start thinking about the safety and well-being of women at gatherings like this.”
