A light-hearted moment occurred during the inauguration of the Mega Bus Terminal on Iwo Road, Ibadan on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
During the ceremony, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde jokingly warned Fuji artist Taye Currency not to perform his controversial track “Werey la n fi wo werey”.
The event, which was attended by politicians, dignitaries and local residents, took a humorous turn when the governor’s comments sparked laughter from the guests.
While addressing the audience, Governor Makinde turned to Tay Currency, who had just performed, and quipped:
“Tye money, don’t sing ‘Werey la n fi wo werey’ here.”
The statement drew cheers and jeers, as many attendees were familiar with the song’s previous controversies.
Taye Currency, whose full name is Taye Akande Adebisi, responded with humor, performing a short snippet of one of his hits before letting the governor go on, creating a fun impromptu moment in the otherwise formal event.
The song “Werey la n fi wo werey” attracted much attention earlier this year when Taiye Money Company performed it at the coronation ceremony of Oba Adewolu Ladoja, Olubadan, Ibadan.
The phrase, which roughly means “fighting madness with madness,” sparked controversy and was interpreted by some as a political attack. Others defended it as an expression of Fuji street culture, stressing that it was not targeted at anyone.
