Nollywood actor Yomi Gold has caused an uproar online after a video emerged of her working at a livestock farm in the United States. The viral video captured the movie star promoting a goat, a move that surprised many Nigerians about his latest overseas venture.
His move to goat farming elicited mixed reactions. While some were surprised to see a Nollywood celebrity engaging in livestock farming, others praised him for embracing new opportunities despite public opinion. Many social media users noted that life abroad often pushes people into diverse and sometimes non-traditional sources of income, and Yumi Gold seemed happy with her choice.
Reactions also reflect a wider discussion about perceptions of manual or agricultural work in Nigeria compared to abroad. Some commentators argue that the same industry that many deride in Nigeria is seen as respected and profitable overseas.
One user wrote: “I’m waiting for him to mention the price per goat. Do you have his Instagram account?” Another commenter noted that the actor may have been involved in the industry for a while, calling him “Mr. Goat.”
Some Nigerians have highlighted the profitability of the U.S. livestock industry, suggesting that Yomi Gold may earn more than those working regular office jobs. Others compared the safety and stability of starting such a business abroad to the risks associated with starting a similar business in Nigeria, where insecurity remains a challenge.
Another comment read, “If he were selling goats like this in Nigeria, they would say he’s in a tough spot right now. But since it’s abroad, they know his business is doing well. It’s okay to work hard, but location helps you get the best return.”
The video has since continued to spark discussions about reinvention, the realities of life abroad, and the evolving career paths of Nigerian artistes abroad.
