Nigerian comedian AY Makun has spoken out about growing insecurity in the country, describing Nigeria as a “crime scene” and criticizing the government’s apparent inaction.
His comments followed a series of shocking incidents, including school kidnappings, killings and a surge in banditry.
AY stressed that attackers are now targeting churches and abducting worshipers, schoolchildren have been abducted from classrooms and even senior military officers such as brigadiers have been killed.
He questioned how the country had reached such a state and why little seemed to be done to address the problems, and wondered whether foreign intervention was necessary to address problems that local authorities had failed to address.
He concluded by urging leaders to prioritize citizen safety, increase accountability and take concrete steps to restore security.
