UK government rejects Nigerian government's request to transfer Ekwemadu to Nigeria

The United Kingdom rejected the Nigerian government’s request on the 8th to allow former Senate Deputy Speaker Ike Ekwemadu to serve the remainder of his sentence in Nigeria.

Ekwemadu was convicted in 2023 of conspiring to remove a young man’s kidney and is currently serving nine years and eight months in a British prison. The high-profile organ trafficking case drew widespread international attention at the time of the trial.

Under the latest UK decision, Ekwemadu will remain in the UK to complete his sentence, effectively ending Nigeria’s application for his transfer.
