    • Grammy Award-winning Nigerian singer-songwriter Temus shares insights into her journey to stardom.
    • She said the success so far has exceeded her expectations from her previous job at the company.
    • During a Q&A on X (formerly Twitter), she discussed her career trajectory and aspirations for the future.

Grammy Award-winning Nigerian singer-songwriter Temus recently opened up about her extraordinary journey to stardom, revealing that she is now far beyond what she ever imagined while working a 9-to-5 corporate job.

In an interactive Q&A session with fans on X (formerly Twitter), the “Burning” hitmaker discussed her career path and future goals.

When a fan asked, “What are you most looking forward to right now? And, have you achieved all of the dreams you had before becoming a star?” Teems shared insights into her transformative journey.

Temilade Openiyi (professionally known as Tems) made the bold decision to quit her digital marketing job in 2018 to devote herself full-time to music, a choice that was fraught with uncertainty but ultimately became a turning point in her career.

Her big break came in 2020 when she was featured on Wizkid’s hit single “Essence,” which was later remixed with Justin Bieber. The song climbed to No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming one of the highest-charting songs by a Nigerian artist and introducing Tems to a global audience.

Since then, Tems has broken many barriers in African music internationally. In 2023, she made history as the first female Afrobeat artist to win a Grammy Award, winning Best Melodic Rap Performance for “Wait for U” with Future, which featured her vocals.

Her influence continued at the 65th Grammy Awards in 2024, when she won her first Best African Music Performance Award for her solo track “Born in the Wild”, further solidifying Afrobeats’ influence in the global music scene.
