The Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, revealed that the state government has consistently thwarted a large number of planned attacks through proactive intelligence and robust security measures.
Speaking about recent security concerns, Fanwo said:
“For every incident that occurred, the Kogi State Government averted more than 20 possible incidents.”
Fanwo revealed that the country has stepped up efforts to protect vulnerable targets after reliable intelligence indicated a possible threat.
“We’re doing a lot of things to protect worship centers, to protect communities in rural areas. We have a lot of intelligence related to protection.[a]Look at the Worship Center,” he said.
The commissioner further revealed that the governor recently convened a high-level security committee meeting attended by religious leaders, where security tips and intelligence were shared to prevent threats. According to him, this proactive move helps avoid incidents like those recorded elsewhere.
Fanwo noted that the government was “investing heavily” in security logistics and deploying personnel to the most affected areas. However, he urged residents to also take personal precautions:
“We are protecting these people, we are providing adequate security in rural areas. But at the same time, we should also be aware that we also have a role to play in avoiding those places that make us vulnerable.” Fanwo said.
