The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has issued formal expulsion certificates to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and several other members who were expelled at the party’s last national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The certificates were issued on Tuesday, December 2, at the National Council meeting in Abuja, where the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, formally handed over the leadership of the country to Senator Kabiru Turaki. A statement posted on the PDP X handle shortly after the ceremony confirmed the development.
The party approved the expulsion of Wike and others on November 16 after he was accused of anti-party activities.
Turaki told reporters after a meeting of the national committee that the committee reviewed the issues surrounding the expelled members. He explained the rationale for the issuance of the certificate, saying: “We note that Nigerian law does not favor dual status of political parties and therefore we try to facilitate them.”
Turaki added, “Since they are no longer members of our party and the National Congress, our party’s highest decision-making body, has expelled them from the party, we have decided to issue them certificates of expulsion.”
