Nollywood actress, Nkechi Blessing Sunday has opened up about some of the difficulties she faced at the beginning of her acting career.
During a recent appearance on the “The Honest Bunch” podcast, she revealed that one of her earliest challenges was delivering scripts with extreme and unrealistic scenarios. She recalled being handed a script that called for her to “Sleep with Dogs,” but she immediately turned down the role because it might have had a long-term impact on her reputation.
According to her:
“Despite being a newbie, I was offered a script for Sleeping with Dogs. I turned it down because I couldn’t start my career that way. Imagine my first film, me sleeping with dogs. It wouldn’t make sense. It would be a label because no matter what you start with, people will associate you with it. I don’t want to be famous for being the guy who sleeps with dogs in the movie.
“So, I turned that script down. But I threw it right away and a lot of girls grabbed it. I’m not sure any of them would be in the spotlight today.”
Nkechi added that after quitting the production, she met veteran film producer Emeka Duru, who expressed interest in working with her. That meeting eventually led to her debut role in Emem Isong-produced Through The Fire, marking her official entry into Nollywood.
