Popular personal shopper Aunt Esther on X is trending again after latest news revealed she refused a blood transfusion her doctors recommended.
She earlier told her followers that her test results were in, confirming she had cancer in her breasts and armpits. She also thanked everyone who donated financially for her treatment.
However, Sir Dickson, one of the coordinators responsible for the donation, announced that he and another medical volunteer had withdrawn from her case.
According to him, doctors advised her that she needed a blood transfusion before starting chemotherapy, but she refused because of her faith as a Jehovah’s Witness.
He added that her church allegedly warned her that she would be excommunicated if she accepted blood, with some family members insisting “whatever happens is God’s will”. He said that while her beliefs must be respected, they cannot continue to lead fundraising efforts when a patient refuses ideal treatment that could have saved her life.
This prompted reactions from all over X, with many donors expressing dismay and fear that their financial support might be wasted if she refused necessary medical care.
A popular online doctor also weighed in, saying people have a right to be upset. He noted that in life-threatening situations, refusing recommended treatment could have serious consequences and called on Aunt Esther, her family and her religious elders to reconsider the decision.
