The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commended the exceptional courage and professionalism of the Alpha Jet pilots who ejected safely following an in-flight emergency while conducting a post-inspection functional check flight at Kainji Air Force Base, Nigeria, on December 6, 2025. An emergency arose shortly after takeoff, prompting the pilot to take quick action and show remarkable composure. They skillfully maneuvered the aircraft away from populated areas and ejected safely. The crew is currently undergoing routine medical evaluation.

Chief of Air Staff (CAS) Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke commended the pilots for their courage, discipline and sound judgment in averting casualties. He also directed the immediate establishment of a committee of inquiry to investigate the incident. The Nigerian Air Force assures the public of its unwavering commitment to stringent safety standards and operational excellence. The country’s armed forces remain committed to protecting its personnel while protecting the lives and property of citizens in accordance with its constitutional mandate.
