- The Chairman of Essien Udim LGA in Akwa Ibom State has been strongly criticized after he posted photos of the “essential equipment” he provided to local security forces, which was limited to machetes, flashlights, raincoats and rain boots.
- The Facebook post, intended to showcase efforts to increase security around government facilities, sparked a backlash as Nigerians questioned the usefulness of such a basic tool against armed criminals.

Ntiedo Effiong Usoro, Chairman of Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, was heavily criticized on social media after he proudly displayed equipment he provided to the local security unit of the council to deal with insecurity.
Usoro shared the photo on Facebook and wrote: “Yesterday, in my office, I provided the Parliament’s local security unit with the necessary equipment to protect the Parliament Secretariat and other government facilities within its premises.”

The so-called “essential equipment” includes: machete, flashlight, raincoat, rain boots
Nigerians were quick to criticize the chairman, questioning the effectiveness of the supplies against modern gun-toting criminals. Many also expressed concern about the image of an old man among the security guards, questioning his ability to keep the community safe with such rudimentary tools.
