Ahmed Musa officially retired from international football at the age of 33, ending a legendary 15-year career with the Super Eagles. He confirmed the news on Wednesday, December 17, after making a record-breaking 111 appearances for the Nigeria national team.

Moussa reflected on his early years balancing the U-20s, U-23s and senior teams at the same time. He shared, “When the journey started, I was just a little boy… Whenever Nigeria called, I showed up. I never had to think twice.” He said being the most capped player in U.S. history is an honor he holds “With great respect.”

His career has been filled with historic milestones, including winning the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and becoming Nigeria’s leading goalscorer at the World Cup. “Goals against Argentina and Iceland in the World Cup are memories I will always remember.” he said. Musa added that winning the 2013 trophy will always be a highlight for the Nigeria team.

Moussa left with a calm heart, thanking his teammates, coaches and fans for their support. At the end of his speech he said: “Once an eagle, always an eagle. Thank you, Nigeria. Thank you for everything. “Although he left the national team, he is still active in club football as the general manager and player of Kano Pillars.
