OBO’s big bet: Davido invests $25,000 (₦36m!) in Super Eagles’ Africa Cup of Nations opener

It’s Detty December, Flytime Fest kicks off tonight and the energy in Lagos is crazy, but Davido has just managed to turn the nation’s attention to football.

Nigeria’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tour begins tomorrow (Tuesday, December 23). Just in case the tension wasn’t high enough, the 30BG boss himself decided to up the ante to astronomical amounts.

Davido officially became a global hit today as he proved he doesn’t just talk the talk in support of the national team’s big games but walks the talk.

    £36m receipt

Earlier today, Davido shared a betting slip on his X (formerly Twitter) account that made everyone stop scrolling.

The star showed a jaw-dropping expression $25,000 in shares. The Super Eagles will win their first group match against Tanzania tomorrow.

For those doing a quick conversion at current exchange rates, this works out to approx. 36 million₦ Ride on 90 minutes of football.

See the documents here: [Insert screenshot or embed of Davido’s X post showing the bet]

Davido doesn’t just want a 1-0 victory; By giving up this cash, he exuded great confidence that the kids would deliver a big Win to start the game.

    The pressure is coming!

Such high-stakes gambling is nothing new to Davido, who is known for his flamboyant lifestyle and love of good bets. But linking such a huge amount of money to national pride just hours before kick-off has sent social media into an absolute frenzy.

The reaction was a mixture of hype and anxiety:

    • Believers: Many fans consider this the ultimate morale booster. If OBO trusts the team and provides $25,000, victory is certainly guaranteed!

    • sweater: Others are already calculating what they can do with £36m and begging the Super Eagles not to “play into our hands”. The pressure on Osimhen, Lookman and the rest of the team tripled.

    Will OBO cash out?

Tomorrow’s game against Tanzania is already a must-see, but now it has an extra layer of drama. We all prayed for three points, but now we are also praying for Davido’s bank account.

Will the Super Eagles soar and keep the bag for Davido, or will they provide “breakfast” early in the game?

Tune in on time tomorrow. This will be a movie!
