Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has warned the newly sworn-in Chairman of Agege Local Government, Abdulganiyo Obasa, against divisive tendencies, urging him to practice inclusive governance and focus on unity-driven grassroots development.
Sanwo-Olu gave this advice on Monday during the swearing-in ceremony of Obasa and Toyin Adejimiwa as the Permanent Secretary at Lagos House in Ikeja, the state capital.
Obasa, the son of Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudasiru Obasa, has been acting chairman of the committee until his confirmation and formal inauguration.
Addressing the officials, the governor described local government as the administrative level closest to the people, stressing that leadership at this level must be visible, responsive and compassionate.
He urged the Agage Assembly Chairman to avoid actions or policies that could deepen divisions, stressing the need for inclusive governance that prioritizes measurable results and delivers tangible benefits to residents.
Sanwo-Olu noted that discipline and performance remain core benchmarks for leadership and career development in the Lagos State Public Service.
The governor also acknowledged the presence of retired Permanent Secretaries at the ceremony, describing them as exemplary public servants whose contributions and legacies continue to inspire the state’s civil service.
In November 2025, SaharaReporters reported that Vice Chairman Abdul-Ganiyu Vinod Obasa, the son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, officially took over as Chairman following the resignation of the Lagos Member of Parliament, His Excellency. Tunde Aziz.
Aziz took medical leave less than a month after he was sworn in on July 26, 2025, stepping down to receive treatment for an undisclosed illness.
His decision paves the way for Obasa’s son, who has been serving in an acting capacity, to take full control of the commission.
The media aide to now former chairman Rotimi Sulaiman said the principal’s decision was based on health concerns.
