- Seyi Makinde has addressed the ongoing differences between him and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, saying their differences stem from different stances on the 2027 elections and the future of the PDP
- . Makinde said his involvement in politics was not financially motivated, recalling that in 1998 he made $1 million from his business.
- He also claimed Wike promised to “retain the PDP” for President Bola Tinubu in 2027, a move he said he privately questioned.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has opened up on the escalating tensions between him and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, revealing that their differences center on fundamental differences over the 2027 general elections and the survival of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a candid speech, Makinde traced his personal success to the late 1990s and stressed that his political journey was not driven by financial desperation.
Makinde recalls that his company, Makon, received its first major contract from Mobil in 1997, when he was just 29 years old. Within a year, he made $1 million.
“At 29, I was making $1 million and Wike had just graduated from law school. He went on to become the local government chairman. I was not looking for something to eat; I was looking for a better Nigeria,” Makinde declared.
According to the Governor, the “real issues” started during a high-level meeting between President Bola Tinubu, Wike and the Chief of Staff to the President. During the meeting, Wike reportedly made a bold promise to the president regarding the next election cycle.
“Vic told the president, ‘Well, sir, I will hold the PDP for you in 2027.'” I was shocked. The president did not even ask for such a commitment,” Makinde disclosed.
Makinde said he privately confronted Wike after the meeting, questioning whether there was any collective agreement to hand over the interests of the PDP to the ruling APC in 2027.
