- Abia State Governor Alex Oti has dismissed speculation that he plans to defect to the APC and reiterated his loyalty to the Labor Party.
- He said his political decisions were based on principles and a shared vision rather than being influenced by waves of defections to the ruling party, stressing that those who expected him to defect would have to wait longer.

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Oti, has dismissed rumors that he may defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), clarifying that he remains committed to the Labor Party (LP).
Responding to the speculation amid a recent wave of high-profile defections from the ruling party, Oti insisted that his political path was guided by principles rather than popular trends.
Oti warned that political decisions should not be made out of convenience or a desire to follow the “fashion wave”. He emphasized that every leader has unique circumstances and cannot join the party just because others join the party.
“Those who are waiting for me to defect to the APC will have to wait longer. Everyone has their own opinions and circumstances; you don’t just join the APC because many other governors are joining,” he said.
The Governor explained that any alliance with political parties must be based on the people’s shared vision and clear goals. He noted that those anticipating his transition will have to wait “for a while longer” as he is currently focused on fulfilling his duties in Abia.
“Alignments with any political party must be based on clear goals and a shared vision and not on convenience…Major political decisions should not be influenced by pressure or the actions of others,” he added.
