- Nwuke got out of his car moments before the fire intensified and later expressed gratitude for surviving the ordeal, which his daughter described as a close call.

Former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ogbonna Nwuke narrowly escaped death after his SUV caught fire and was gutted by flames in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Monday.
The incident occurred when the former MP was traveling along the Eastern Bypass, especially in front of Hypercity, on his way to Trans Amadi.
Nwuke, who represented the Etche/Omuma federal constituency from 2011 to 2015, confirmed the harrowing experience in a telephone interview with LEADERSHIP on Tuesday morning.
“I was driving towards Trans Amadi when the incident happened. In fact, it happened in front of Hypercity on the Eastern Bypass. I thank God for the gift of life. I thank God that I survived.” he said.
Witnesses at the scene said the vehicle suddenly burst into flames, forcing the deputies to get out of the car, and the fire intensified.
The former MP’s daughter Ebony Nwuke took to Facebook to share her relief and gratitude that her father survived, describing the incident as “A critical moment” and tragedy.
“Today, God saved my father from the jaws of the devil. For this alone, my heart is filled with gratitude. Cars can be replaced, metals can be repaired… but life is priceless, and once it is gone, it is gone forever.” she wrote.
She further thanked “Abba Heavenly Father” Thank you for choosing mercy and turning what could have been a day of mourning into a day of celebration of life saved.
