Tax reform; no bank accounts will be frozen in 2026 – Oyedele clarifies

    • Chairman of the Presidential Commission on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele, has refuted claims that bank accounts without Tax Identification Numbers (TINs) will be frozen or automatically deducted from January 1, 2026.
    • He described the reports as misinformation, stressing that no such provision existed in the new tax law and urging Nigerians to verify claims rather than panic.

Nigerian social critic and commentator Scott Iguma has called on the government to urgently install CCTV cameras on major roads in Lagos, saying he has witnessed disturbing scenes in recent days.

Iguma revealed that he found at least three bodies on the main road within a short period of time and there was no information yet on how the victims died or who was responsible. He described the situation as deeply alarming, especially in a busy and economically important city like Lagos.

According to him, some of the cases appeared to be hit-and-run incidents, while one body appeared to have been on the road for an extended period of time, raising concerns about delays in emergency response and poor investigations.

Iguma believes that the lack of surveillance infrastructure makes it extremely difficult to track accidents, identify perpetrators or establish the facts surrounding road-related fatalities. He stressed that CCTV cameras should no longer be viewed as a luxury item but as an essential public safety tool.

He urged authorities to take immediate action, warning that continued inaction could further endanger lives on Lagos roads.
