In other news… Senator Kelvin Chukwu, who represents Enugu East Senatorial District, has come under the spotlight after a video showed him physically assaulting a constituent at a football match he organized.
According to “SaharaReporters”, the incident occurred during the last match of the tournament, which started in December 2025 and ended on Saturday, January 3, 2026. The identity of the voter who was attacked has not been revealed.
Video obtained by the outlet showed the senator getting into a heated argument with the electorate, before an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), said to be part of the Chukwu security forces, physically assaulted the electorate. Another video reportedly showed a lone security officer also attacking him while other armed security officers stood by.
The situation escalated further when Senator Chukwu chased the man outside the football field and slapped him. Despite the attack, the voter was later arrested and detained.
An eyewitness who spoke to SaharaReporters said the incident took place after a minor disagreement during a community Christmas football match in Amuri, the senator’s village.
“Senator Kelvin Chukwu slapped one of the players after a minor disagreement,” the source said. “He has done nothing tangible for the community over the years. He only organized a football match in December this year because the elections were approaching.”
