Police are investigating Pastor Chris Okafor after a video of him delivering a sermon on discipline and sexual self-control went viral.
The Nigerian Police confirmed that the cleric has been questioned at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Lagos. Okafor initially resisted the directive, arguing that he could ignore the subpoena because the Region 2 Command in Onikan was already handling a related case involving actress Doris Ogala.
In his sermon, he emphasized that unchecked desire is the main reason why many people repeatedly get into trouble. He said both men and women continue to struggle in life, not because temptation is unusual, but because many people refuse to restrain their urges.
Pastor Okafor challenged those who judge potential partners based solely on appearance, citing a passage in the Bible that warns against relying solely on appearance. He asked the congregation:
“You say she is beautiful, but what about her character? You say he is handsome, but what about his reputation?”
He explains that most people make emotional decisions based on appearance, wealth, or attractiveness, only to realize later that their choices resulted from uncontrolled desire, not intelligence.
He believes that the true test of maturity is discipline, the ability to say no even when given the opportunity.
He also said:
“Whether married or unmarried, if a man is undisciplined, he will still chase women everywhere. On airplanes, in shopping malls, even women who need help.”
The preacher added that some of the worst cases occurred inside churches, with some men turning places of worship into hunting grounds and disturbing the peace of female members.
