    The Women for the Advancement of African Women (WAAW) Foundation aims to increase the talent pool of African women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)-related subjects and works to ensure that these talents participate in African innovation. Scholarships are renewable annually based on evidence of the student’s continued academic performance.

    WAAW Foundation Scholarships for Young African Women

    Accept courses:

    Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) related courses at any African university;

    • one. All engineering fields
    • b. All computer science
    • c. Science and mathematics related fields; industrial chemistry, environmental science
    • d. Medical courses; pharmacy/biomedicine, biochemistry, zoology. Agriculture, geography, statistics, etc.

    Courses not accepted:

    one. Core medical courses such as medicine and surgery, nursing, etc.

    b.Social Science Courses

    c.Art courses.

    About the Working to Advance African Women (WAAW) Foundation

    The WAAW (Women in Science and Technology Education in Africa) Foundation is an international non-profit organization established in 2007. Headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria, with offices in Abuja, Nigeria, Kigali, Rwanda, and Allen, Texas.

    WAAW Foundation Scholarship

    WAAW Foundation Scholarship Purpose and Benefits

    Scholarship recipients will receive a scholarship of US$500 per academic year, or the equivalent in their country’s local currency. Scholarship recipients may reapply for renewal the following year and provide evidence of continued academic excellence.

    WAAW Foundation Scholarship Eligibility Requirements

    The WAAW Foundation’s annual scholarship program supports need-based STEM-focused college education for African women. Please read the eligibility criteria before applying. All applications that do not meet the criteria will be automatically deleted! Eligibility criteria include:

    • African-American female students living and studying in Africa.
    • Currently pursuing an undergraduate bachelor’s degree program.
    • Study a STEM-related course at a university or college in Africa.
    • Demonstrable financial need
    • Excellent academic performance.
    • Proven leadership, volunteerism and community service
    • Under 32 years of age.
    • Only first and second year students are eligible to apply. If studying a five-year course, this also includes students in their third year.

    Please note that WAAW does not fund graduate (Master’s, MBA, or PhD) programs, second or subsequent degrees, students over 32 years of age, non-STEM focused programs, or diploma degrees. There are no exceptions to these requirements.

    The WAAW Foundation awards annual scholarships to students who demonstrate need and demonstrate status as full-time students in STEM-related courses at African universities. Winners will be required to start a STEM outreach chapter at their university.

    Documents required for application

    Only shortlisted candidates are required to send the following additional items to complete this process.

    • 2 references; one must be written by a professor at your research institution and the other by an academic supervisor/advisor or mentor and emailed to us by your recommender.
    • A copy of your current signed and stamped transcript from your university will be emailed to [email protected]
    • A copy of the student’s school ID must be scanned and emailed to us.
