A*Star International Scholarships are open to international students to pursue a postdoctoral degree in Singapore. Our postdoctoral fellowships provide you with sophisticated teaching opportunities at renowned universities and laboratories, helping you develop new scientific capabilities and conduct cutting-edge research in your area of expertise.

After completing your postdoctoral training, you will start an exciting career at the A*STAR Institute. After completing their postdoctoral research training, scholars will return to Singapore to contribute to the A*STAR Institute for three (3) years.

Scholarship Scope
The AStar International Scholarship provides recipients with the following benefits:
Successful applicants will receive the following overseas postdoctoral research training support for up to 2 years*:
- Monthly overseas living allowance.
- Monthly living allowance, including provident fund contributions (if applicable).
- Annual round trip air tickets.
- Other perks include:
- Settlement expenses.
- Computer allowance.
- Book allowance.
- Conference allowance.
- Annual personal insurance.
- These 3 years will be completed and funded by a preferred A*STAR institute.
- All rates/allowances vary by country and university/laboratory and may be adjusted by A*STAR from time to time.
Eligibility Criteria for A*Star International Scholarships
To be eligible for the A*Star International Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Required language: English
- Eligible countries: Singaporeans and other nationals can apply, but non-Singaporeans must obtain Singapore citizenship before the scholarship begins.
- Completed PhD within the past 4 years.
- Have an excellent publication record.
- There are no existing bonds with any agency.
- Have applied or are applying for postdoctoral positions related to top overseas universities/laboratories.
- Applicants who are in the final stages of their PhD studies can apply to the AIF. However, their AIF award is only confirmed upon conferment of the PhD degree.
The above eligibility criteria are not exhaustive.
A*STAR may include additional selection criteria in line with current scholarship policies. These policies may be modified from time to time without prior notice.
How to apply for A*Star International Scholarship?
Please follow these important steps to qualify for this scholarship:
- Register “Create your own account” and enter your email and password and you will see the online application form.
- Complete the required application and submit.
- After you submit all required documentation, your application will be reviewed and you may be asked to provide additional information as we evaluate your application. If you are shortlisted, you will be invited to take part in a psychological test and at least two interviews.
Please note for the interview: You will have 15 minutes to present your proposed research project. This will be followed by a 15-minute Q&A.
If you are eligible for the next round of interviews: You will need to seek approval from the Director and Executive Director of your proposed A*STAR Institute to serve in the Institute for a 1-year service commitment period after your postdoctoral training under AIF.
