    • Nigerian artist Wizkid, also known as Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, has announced his intention to enter politics.
    • On January 8, 2025, a video of his announcement went viral on social media.
    • Wizkid plans to run for President of Nigeria.
Wizkid makes history with 9 billion streams on Spotify

Nigerian superstar Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as “Wizkid” has sparked widespread reactions online after a recent video captured him making a surprising statement about entering politics.

The video began circulating on social media on January 8, 2025, in which the “Essence” singer announced his intention to run for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The video comes shortly after Wizkid made history by becoming the first African musician to hit 10 billion plays on Spotify, a significant achievement that has earned him praise from fans across Africa and beyond.

Presidential ambitions aside, further sparking discussions was Wizkid’s revelation that he would not ally with any of Nigeria’s major political parties, including the APC, PDP or Labor Party.

Instead, the award-winning artist unveiled plans for a new political movement, which he named Wizkid Party, abbreviated as WPP.

The video was recorded in a relaxed and fun environment with friends and family, in which Wizkid says:

“Wizkid Party. WPP. I will run for President in 2020…”

He deliberately did not mention a specific election year, ending his statement on a humorous note, leaving viewers guessing whether the statement was serious or a joke.
