Scholarship Scope
The University of Waterloo Scholarship provides recipients with the following benefits:
- The David Johnston-Leibovich Foundation International Experience Award will award up to $2,500 for one semester of study experience, up to $2,500 to $5,000 for one semester of work or volunteer experience, and up to $10,000 for two semesters of work or volunteer experience.
- The International Master’s Excellence Award is worth $2,500 per semester for a maximum of 6 semesters.
Eligibility Criteria for University of Waterloo Scholarships
To be eligible for a University of Waterloo scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Required language: English
- Eligible countries: All countries in the world
- Candidates with good academic records (undergraduate average is usually at least 70%; postgraduate average is usually at least 75%) are eligible to apply for these scholarships.
- Applicants must be full-time undergraduate and graduate students from any faculty wishing to participate in an international experience in Israel, including minimum wage or volunteer international cooperative work placements, volunteer internships, academic exchanges, or a semester of study related to academic requirements.
- International students who are registered full-time and pay international tuition fees with a valid Canadian study permit.
- Typically offered to students in research-oriented courses (thesis or major research paper).
- Typically only offered to students entering the first semester of the program (Semester 1.0).
- Students must demonstrate academic excellence through standards set by the college.
- Students must meet the academic progress requirements of their program and there are no outstanding probationary admission requirements.
- This award may be in addition to other internal or external scholarships (e.g., Washington University Graduate Fellowship, OGS, etc.). Note: Scholarships are not the same as sponsorships – see next bullet.
- Under normal circumstances, students should not also receive sponsorship from foreign governments or institutions (e.g., China Scholarship Council, Libyan sponsorship, etc.), nor should they self-fund in whole or in part more than the minimum support level of the college.
- Grandparent students under an existing IMSA program cannot be nominated for an IMAE; however, students who previously received an IMSA for completing a master’s degree may be nominated for an IMAE.
- Students will automatically be considered for this award based on their application for admission. Departments and/or colleges will define their own internal processes to select recipients based on eligibility criteria and assignments.
- Departments may impose more stringent eligibility criteria at their discretion.
