Utrecht Excellence Scholarships are currently open. In this article, we explain the scholarship in detail, its benefits, and the step-by-step application process.

As an international student, you will be in good company at Utrecht University. About 1,500 international students come to the university every year to study master’s programs taught in English.
Number of scholarships: 20-25 scholarships will be offered in 2022-2023, distributed among 6 graduate schools. Scholarship funding comes from the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship Fund established by Utrecht University and donations from Utrecht University alumni.

Scholarship Scope
The Utrecht Excellence Scholarship provides the recipient with:
- tuition fee or
- Tuition plus €11,000 living expenses
Eligibility criteria for the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship
To be eligible for the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship, candidates must meet all of the following requirements:
- Required language: English
- Eligible countries: All world countries except European countries.
- Belonging to the top 10% of the graduating class.
- Not holding an EU passport is not eligible for support from the Dutch grant and loan system.
- Have completed secondary school and/or a bachelor’s degree outside the Netherlands.
- Applications have been made for the International Master’s Program with a start date of September 1, 2022.
- Be able to comply with the conditions for obtaining a Dutch visa/residence permit.
- Failure to meet one or more of these criteria automatically means the student is ineligible for this scholarship.
- Selection criteria: Qualified candidates are selected for scholarships based on the following criteria:
- Academic achievement and prospects in the proposed field of study;
- Academic quality and performance of previous qualifications, such as evidence of being in the top 10% of the class, grades, test scores, writing samples, letters of recommendation;
- Quality and relevance of the motivation letter for the master’s program (academic content, intercultural and communication skills, personal motivation);
- The quality of the master’s program application itself (completeness, accuracy, consistency).
How to apply for the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship?
Please follow the instructions below to apply for the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship:
(1). Submit your master’s program application first; if you do not do this first, your scholarship application will be deleted.
(2). Please follow the steps below to submit a complete application for your chosen master’s program:
- Check the entry requirements for this master’s program.
- Apply promptly, preferably before the deadline; depending on the Master’s program chosen, see ‘When to apply’.
- Download instructions for applying to the Master’s program.
- Go to Study link and complete the online application.
- You will receive an email with your login details OSIRIS Online Applicationwhere you can upload the required files. In the OSIRIS online application you can also check the status of your application.
- Pay the application fee.
(3). After submitting your application for the Master’s program, you have the option to submit an application for the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship November 1st.
- Please note that if the master’s program deadline is later than the scholarship deadline, you must submit your master’s program application before the scholarship deadline to be considered for the scholarship.
(4). After submitting your master’s program application, you can visit Osiris Apply Online.
- Log in using your Osiris username and password.
- Click on the link “New Application”.
- Answer the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship questions and upload the required documents.
(5). You need to upload the following files:
- Proof of being in the top 10% of your graduating class (an official document issued by your university proving that you are in the top 10% of your graduating class).
(6). Submit your application.
