About the Australian Government Research Training Program
Research training programs are administered by universities on behalf of the Department of Education and Training. Applications need to be made directly to participating universities. Each university has its own application and selection process, please contact your chosen university directly to discuss how to apply for the RTP scheme.

Australian Government Research Training Program Eligibility
Be eligible for consideration for Australian Government awards RTTP A stipend scholarship for which applicants must start or study a research-based higher degree course (for which RTTP Supported by Griffith University). The applicant’s income from other sources must not be used to support his or her general living expenses, and the benefits provided must not exceed 75% of the total income. RTTP Bursaries. Income not related to the candidate’s research program, or income derived from the candidate’s research program but not used to support general living expenses, will not be considered.

How to apply for the Australian Government Research Training Program
Before applying:
- Check your country’s opening and closing dates and select your country of citizenship/residence from the list of participating countries for specific information on eligibility, priority areas and how to apply. Please see participating countries pages for opening and closing dates.
- If you plan to apply, you must read the Australian Scholarships Policy Handbook. The handbook provides information including general qualification requirements, selection process, rights and responsibilities. Please note that the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade may revise and update this manual at any time without prior notice.
- Some countries encourage and allow you to apply online, while others require paper applications. Please see your participating country profile for more information
There are two forms of application to the Australian Government Research Training Program – online application and postal application. Below is the application process.
Apply online
Visit the Australian Online Scholarship Information System (OASIS). When you register online, you will be asked to answer some questions to determine your eligibility. You will then be given a unique registration number, username and password.
You do not need to submit your application immediately. You can prepare a draft application form and update it and your supporting documents until the deadline specified in the relevant participating country profile.
Once submitted, your application cannot be changed. Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply online before the deadline. OASIS experiences peak usage in the days leading up to the deadline, and applicants may experience delays.

Apply by mail
If you are unable to submit your application online, you may apply by mail. Please check your participating country profile for contact details for obtaining the paper application form and any other templates, such as referee reports (if applicable).
Completed paper application forms and supporting documents must be submitted by the deadline specified in your country. View opening dates and closing dates for each country.
