- Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan says the withdrawal of criminal defamation charges against her is a victory for the rule of law.
- The FCT High Court dismissed the case after AGF filed a stay notice.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) has welcomed the federal government’s decision to withdraw criminal defamation charges filed against her earlier, saying the move vindicated her position.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, January 14, after the FCT High Court dismissed the case, the senator said the outcome reaffirmed her belief in the rule of law and democratic principles.
“Today’s results confirm my belief in the rule of law. I remain committed to serving my constituents and defending the democratic rights of all Nigerians,” Akpoti-Uduahan said.
She thanked her legal team, constituents and supporters for supporting her throughout her legal battle.
The case was dismissed after the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) issued a stay notice, effectively ending the proceedings.
The charges, which have sparked public debate around free speech and political accountability, are said to relate to comments the senator made during a television interview.
A notice of termination dated December 12, 2025 concluded proceedings numbered FHC/ABJ/CR/195/2025.
In delivering his ruling, Justice CN Oji acknowledged the withdrawal and dismissed the charges, noting that the ruling highlighted the need to limit the use of prosecutorial powers.
“The court hopes that this decision will pave the way for restraint, healing and respect for the rule of law in our democratic process,” the judge said.
