This is a scholarship offered by the Swedish Academy for professionals from around the world – applications are open. Interested and qualified candidates should review the scholarship guide below to learn about eligibility, requirements, and how to apply.
To be eligible for the SI Global Professionals Scholarship, you must be a citizen of one of our 41 eligible countries and have sufficient demonstrated work and leadership experience. You must also follow the university admissions application steps and be admitted to one of the master’s programs on time.
About SI Global Professionals Scholarship?
The SI Global Professionals Scholarship is designed to develop future global leaders who will contribute to the world.United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and achieve sustainable development.
Applicants should be clear about how their education will contribute to the sustainable development of their country and region. In 2023, the Swedish Academy will offer around 350 scholarships for master’s degree studies in Sweden.
This scholarship is intended for full-time, one- or two-year master’s programs and is funded by the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Swedish Academy opens applications for master’s studies once a year starting in the autumn semester.
For a successful application, please ensure you are eligible, complete all steps of the process, and that you have the necessary documents to complete your application in a timely manner. Please read the following pages carefully.
Scholarship details
What you can expect as a scholarship recipient:
- Full tuition. This fee is paid by SI directly to your Swedish university at the beginning of each semester.
- Monthly payment of SEK 11,000 Covers your living expenses throughout your studies.
- Sickness and accident insurance.
- Travel Grant. This is a one-time payment and does not apply to students already living in Sweden.
- For scholars from Bangladesh, Bolivia; Brazil, Cambodia, Cameroon, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guatemala, Honduras, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Morocco, Myanmar, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Vietnam, Zambia or Zimbabwe – The scholarship includes a travel allowance of SEK 15,000 for the entire period of study.
- For scholars from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, The scholarship includes a travel allowance of SEK 11,000 for the entire period of study.
- Membership SI Future Global Professionals Network (NFGP) – a platform to help you grow professionally and build your network in Sweden.
- After the scholarship period ends, you will become SI Alumni Network Member. As a member, you will have unique opportunities for ongoing networking and professional development.

- Pay the application fee for college admissions.
- Changes to study plans are allowed. We can only support you through our awarded master’s degree programmes.
- Extensions or changes to the scholarship period awarded are permitted.
Standards and Qualifications SI Scholarship for Global Professionals
Country of Citizenship
You must be a citizen of a country eligible for SI scholarships. However, you do not need to live in the country when applying.
college admissions
You must be responsible for paying tuition fees to a Swedish university, following the university admissions steps and being admitted to one of the eligible master’s programs by March 30, 2023.
previous experience
You must have at least 3,000 hours of proven work experience. Additionally, you must have leadership experience from a current or previous employer or civil society engagement.
Master’s program
The master’s program you are applying for must be eligible for an SI scholarship. Depending on your nationality, we will give priority to courses in certain subject areas.
Not eligible to apply
Regardless of all of the eligibility criteria listed above, you no You are eligible for the SI Global Professionals Scholarship if you meet the following criteria:
- Have lived in Sweden for a cumulative two years or more before the scholarship period (starting in August 2023);
- Have previously been awarded a Swedish Academy Scholarship for master’s level study or research at a Swedish university/university college. Participants who have previously participated in the SI Summer Academy for Young Professionals (SAYP), as well as students who have participated in the SI Swedish Summer Course or the Swedish Institute Summer University (SISU) can still apply;
- Already have a degree from a Swedish university/university college;
- Currently enrolled in a course of study at a Swedish university/university college;
- Have Swedish or EU/EEA citizenship*, a Swedish permanent residence permit or a temporary work and residence permit based on work or family relations with a Swedish/EU/EEA national who has temporary or permanent residence in Sweden; or
- Hold dual citizenship in a country that is not included in the DAC list of official development assistance recipients for 2022-2023.
*exception: Students with dual citizenship in Romania can apply for scholarships even if they are EU citizens and must state their citizenship status qualifying for scholarships when applying for SI and university admissions.
SI Global Professionals Scholarship Required Documents
We will not consider any documents other than those required. You must use the form provided by SI and your application must be completed in English. Otherwise, your application will not receive further consideration.
A complete application includes:
- CV (We only accept SI templates)
- Letter of recommendation (We only accept SI templates)
- Valid and complete proof of employment and leadership experience (We only accept SI templates)
- Copy of your valid passport/national ID card
- Motivation (you will be asked in the application portal)

How to Apply for the Global Professionals Scholarship
- After completing the master’s program application, you can apply for SI scholarships. Please see under “Standards” for more information on required documents and forms.
- Submit required documents digitally through our online application portal. The portal is open from 00:01 on February 10th to 14:59 on February 28th, 2023 CET. This page can be accessed during the application period.
notes! Due to high application volumes, the online application portal may be under significant pressure at the end of the application period. We strongly urge all applicants not to wait until the last few days to apply. Entries will no longer be accepted after the deadline of February 28th at 14:59 CET as the portal will be closed.
