Eligibility and requirements for Danish government scholarships for non-EU students
Danish universities receive a limited number of government scholarships each year to support highly qualified full-degree students from non-EU/EEA countries and Switzerland.
In order to be eligible for the scholarship, you must…
- Citizens of countries outside the EU, EEA or Switzerland
- Study a full degree higher education course
- Obtained a limited-time residence permit in Denmark for educational reasons

- Are seeking admission to an arts higher education institution
- Have a legal claim to the rights of Danish citizens
- The child of a foreign citizen who has been granted a residence permit in accordance with Section 9m of the Danish Consolidated Aliens Act, who at the time of entry has been granted a residence permit in accordance with Section 9c, paragraph 1, of the Danish Consolidated Act on Foreigners and is a citizen of a country that is not a member of the EU or not covered by the Agreement on the European Economic Area
- Be a student who is eligible to receive a bursary under Danish law regarding state education funds
Scholarships are administered by Danish universities, and each university selects students and awards them.

Nord Plus
If you study at a Nordic or Baltic higher education institution, Nordplus may offer the opportunity to study in another Nordic or Baltic country as part of your degree.

Erasmus
The Erasmus program offers students from the EU/EEA and Switzerland the opportunity to study abroad as part of their higher education in their home country. Exchange periods range from 2 to 12 months.

Erasmus Mundus/Joint Master’s Degree
The Erasmus Mundus program is open to EU/EEA and non-EU/EEA students. Through the Erasmus Mundus programme, you can apply for scholarships to study specific master’s degree programmes.
These courses are offered jointly by a Danish institution and another European university or college. Students and academics must contact the individual Erasmus Mundus Master’s program to find out more about the scholarships and application procedures.

Scholarships are administered by Danish higher education institutions, with each institution deciding which students will receive the scholarship. For more information on government scholarships, check the admission details of your chosen higher education institution. The institution can also inform you about admission requirements, course descriptions, deadlines, and student services.
Deadlines vary depending on your chosen university and course of study. Generally speaking, the deadline for admission in September of the same year is around March-April, and the deadline for admission in February of the following year is around September-October.
