“Very close to family” – Femi Kuti comments on Wizkid trend on Seun Kuti TV series

    • A video of Femi Kuti praising Wizkid has resurfaced and attracted attention online.
    • The renewed interest in the video comes amid a public rift between Wizkid and Femi’s brother Seun Kuti.
    • The conflict involved comparisons with her late father, Fela Kuti, which sparked criticism on social media.

A resurfaced video showing Fela Anikulapo-Kuti’s eldest son Femi Kuti speaking positively about Grammy Award-winning artist Wizkid is once again gaining traction online amid fresh criticism on social media.

The video has started trending again amid the ongoing disagreement between Wizkid and Femi’s brother Seun Kuti, which allegedly stems from comparisons with their late father Fela Kuti.

The situation sparked mixed reactions from fans, with social media users taking sides and engaging in heated debate.

In the video, Femi describes Wizkid as someone close to Kuti’s family and notes that his true character is very different from the image often portrayed online.

He also noted Wizkid’s long-standing support for Felabration, an annual festival that celebrates and preserves the legacy of Fela Kuti.

Femi said Wizkid has always had a deep respect for Fela’s contribution to music and culture and is committed to honoring him.

Responding to the frequent backlash against the singer, Femi advised many online critics to express their opinions without knowing anything about Wizkid.

He added that the public version of the artist did not fully reflect the person he knew personally, urging people not to judge character solely based on social media narratives or sensational headlines.

In his words: “Wizkid is like a family member to me. Except when he’s not in the country. He would respect the ‘Felabration’ he always shows up for. When I see people commenting on him on social media, they don’t really know Wizkid. The Wizkid I know is very kind and humble. People don’t just understand what it means to have so many people shouting your name and having so much expectations placed on you. It’s too much pressure, too much pressure for someone who has been at the top for so long. It’s a lot, and I think he’s handling it well.”
