The Kano State Government has stated that 600,000 to 700,000 newborns are expected to be born in the state in 2026 alone. These figures are based on the state’s 2006 population growth forecast of 3.5 percent.
The Executive Secretary of the Kano State Hospital Management Council, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, disclosed this at the weekend at the maiden meeting of the Sardauna College of Health Sciences and Technology, a private medical institution in Kano State.
However, he warned that the state faces serious health challenges as its population continues to exceed its available health personnel, a ratio that could stretch already inadequate manpower and facilities.
He noted that the state currently has a shortage of about 4,000 professional health workers
Dr. Nagoda also urged institutions to focus more on the practical aspects of training so that graduates can provide the services required by the community.
